Jen Phillips

Counsellor

I am a Person- Centered Counsellor which means I am non-directive. I will facilitate a safe place for you to explore your feelings and emotions in a non-judgmental, authentic and empathic way. You are the driver of your therapy and can control the pace we work at because this space is about you.

My history and why I am a Counsellor.

I originally started off in health care, working as a health worker in my local hospital, community in peoples homes and community hospitals for the NHS and the private sector. I was involved in critical care, rehabilitation, child care and palliative care over the 10 years working within various health care organisations.
After my experience working in rehabilitation, I realised that I had a passion for helping people on a psychological level as well as a physical one, and found that listening to my patients was just as powerful as helping them to mobilise again. I then looked into counselling where I studied for over 3 years. Since my studies began I have worked with children and adults and have learnt so much from my clients over the years, and have learnt that everyone is completely different from the next and no one reacts the same to difficulties that they are faced.  There is not a "one shoe fits all" in the counselling world and psychological processes take time for some people and not as long for others, some may never recover but find coping strategies to help them through. There is no 'fix' and the only way to keep moving is to work through a problem, but to be able to manage it in a way which feels comfortable for the client, and only on the clients terms.
